LETTERS SENT TO: IRISH TIMES
SUBJECT: BIGOTRY
DATE SENT: NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2001
Dear Sir,
If Father McCaffery really has a desire to tackle religious bigotry,
(Letters 30-11-2001) then he ought to tackle the anti Protestant
confessions of his own church. The Council of Trent positively curses
any who believe the distinctive doctrines of the Protestant faith.
Whatever else may be claimed for Vatican II, it professes to "follow on
in the footsteps of the Council of Trent" and "further the work begun"
by that infamous Council.
Let him publicly deny that any man - be he Protestant born or converted
to its teachings - is not accursed if he believes that in the Last
Supper, Christ did not institute the Apostles priests or did not ordain
that they and other priests should offer His own body and blood.
(Canons on the Sacrifice of the Mass)
I think we will be a long time in waiting.
Yours faithfully,
Colin Maxwell.

Dear Sir,
I publicly challenged
Father McCaffery through this Letters Page (30-11-01) to publicly deny
that his Church has accursed those Protestants - be they born or
converted - who deny the central tenets of the RC Mass.
His
unwillingness or inability to even comment on the issue puts his latest
rant against Protestantism (Letters 19-12-01) into perspective.
Yours
faithfully,
Colin Maxwell.
