LETTER SENT TO: IRISH INDEPENDENT
SUBJECT: EVOLUTION OF THE EYE
DATE SENT: 15-9-06
Dear Sir,
I thought the last
paragraph but one of Kieran's Hoctor's defence of the evolution of the eye (Letters,
September 15th) really sums up the whole evolutionary faith: "It's not so
hard to imagine how it happened." Darwin himself mentions the evolution of the
eye in his most imaginative book "Origins of the Species." I quote: "To suppose
that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to
different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the
correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have formed by natural
selection, seems I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree." (The Origin of
Species, J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd, London, 1971, p. 167) I agree.
Yours
faithfully,
Colin Maxwell

SUBJECT: ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES
DATE SENT: 29-8-05
Dear Sir,
Stuart Wilson makes reference to Darwin's Origin of the Species in
order to defend his faith in evolution. (Letters) Between the covers of
his book, Mr. Darwin assumes and supposes no less than 800 times. It
may be said that he assumed and supposed rather a lot.
Yours,
Colin Maxwell.

LETTER SENT TO: IRISH TIMES
SUBJECT: IF EVOLUTION IS TO BE BELIEVED
DATE SENT: 4-8-01
Dear Sir,
In order to be a devotee of the evolutionist religion, you generally have to believe in the following:
1. Order from an explosion
2. 0+0=1
3. Frogs sooner or later can turn into princes
Yours faithfully,
Colin Maxwell.
