LETTER SENT TO: CATHOLIC HERALD
SUBJECT: THE EUCHARISTIC MIRACLE OF LANCIANO
DATE SENT: 11-9-02
Dear Sir,
Recently some pious soul sent me a leaflet about the "The Eucharistic
Miracle of Lanciano" complete with a colour photograph and all the gory
details including the following: "In the Flesh we see present in
section: the myocardium, the endocardium, the vagus nerve and also the
left ventricle of the heart for the large thickness of the myocardium."
It is a bit hard to read this imprimatur stamped leaflet and not believe that to eat it is cannibalism.
Yours faithfully,
Colin Maxwell
LETTER SENT TO: IRISH TIMES
SUBJECT: THE EUCHARISTIC MIRACLE OF LANCIANO
DATE SENT: 20-8-02
Dear Sir,
I really can't see what Father Egan from Oxford (12th August) has to
complain about when Kevin Myers describes the consecrated host as "this
piece of human flesh, of tongue and breast and bowel"
The last time I rejected the teaching of the mass in this newspaper,
some pious soul only confirmed my worst perceptions by sending me a
leaflet about the "The Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano" complete with a
colour photograph and all the gory details including the following: In
the Flesh we see present in section: the myocardium, the endocardium,
the vagus nerve and also the left ventricle of the heart for the large
thickness of the myocardium. Father Egan might not quite like Kevin Myer's style…but he can't complain about his main contention.
As for the specimen at Lanciano, I defy any one to eat it.
Yours faithfully,
Colin Maxwell.
