Their door knocking Publishers will, of course, deny that they do. Armed with their Reasoning from the Scriptures handbook, they will quote you Ephesians 2:8-9 and assure you that:
"The entire provision for salvation
is an expression of God's undeserved kindness. There is no way that a
descendant of Adam can gain salvation on his own, no matter how noble
his works are. Salvation is a gift from God given to those who put
faith in the sin-atoning value of the sacrifice of his Son." (p.359)
However, when you dig deeper
into Watchtower material, you discover that the JW's actually believe,
in effect, that they are working for their salvation. It is this that keeps them plodding wearily round the housing estates and endless meetings and conventions. If they quit or sit back…they might not survive Armageddon which is always "just round the corner" They keep plodding on, year in and year out, because they are trying to attain enough merit to be justified before God.
Below is the evidence, drawn from the widely propagated JW book:
Life Everlasting - In Freedom of the Sons of God (p.400)
"Jehovah God will justify, declare
righteous, on the basis of their own merit all perfected humans who
have withstood that final, decisive test of mankind. He will adopt and
acknowledge them as his sons through Jesus Christ."
COMMENT:
The gospel of justification by human merits is "another gospel" (Galatians 1:8) and entirely at odds with "the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24) The Bible teaches that works are the evidence
of justification (James 2:17-18) They are never set forth as the basis
as proposed by this Watchtower publication. This is the religion of
Cain (Genesis 4) - not of Jesus Christ.
