A review of David Cloud's Pre February 2006 article:
"The Calvinism Debate: Who Is The Enemy?"
By Colin Maxwell
|
PLEASE NOTE: This article by Mr Cloud has seen a few reported "updates" over the past few years, none of which greatly changed the substance, if at all. However in a recent (February 2006) blitzkreig against the Doctrines of Grace, Mr Cloud decided to go for a radical rehaul. Among other things, he upped the ante in his attacks against Calvin, and decided to drop those things which he had formerly "appreciated" about Calvinism. He also decided to drop the references to some of the various Calvinistic soulwinners mentioned below. There has evidently been a hardening of the heart since the words below were first penned, and things which would have been regarded as almost kindly towards Calvinists have been put aside. Thankfully, the Lord doesn't forget or change His mind towards any good that his people do. I would really love to have time to tackle these changes in a fresh article, but I have preaching responsibilities in my church and (ironically in the circumstances) evangelistic obligations as a missionary to the lost in this city. I took time to answer his recent article "Calvin's Camels" which you may review here. I quoted there some things from the page below. I have decided to keep this critique of the old page up, because it is still contains things relevant to the overall whole debate, and it may be useful to any one researching Mr Cloud's thoughts on Calvinism. I sincerely hope that Mr Cloud does not descend into a deep spirit of bitterness on this issue of Calvinism. Let me place on record, that I appreciate all that is good in the lives and minstries of those who take opposite views to me on these things. Whatever, I might think about their doctrine and whatever steps I might feel I should take to further show its want in the word of God, I hope I never descend into playing down or denying that which once I saw fit to praise. |
